“They want to move the world in the right direction,” is how Marc Cléjan and Nick Albukrek, co-founders of East Hampton-based GREENLOGIC, describe their customers.

The company offers alternative energy products that reduce monthly utility bills and also lessen production of greenhouse gases. “Our goal is to wean our customers from fossil fuels,” Albukrek says. “Some people are only interested in solar electric, but a lot want to go all the way.”

By this he means that in addition to photovoltaic technology, there are biodiesel and geothermal options, which use ground water from underneath a house to produce heat in winter and cool in the summer.

The Long Island Power Authority offers rebates for up to half the cost of an average photovoltaic plan. (Tax breaks from the federal and state governments are also available.) “Added together, these incentives pay for 60 to 70 percent of a residential system,” Albukrek explains. “And, once the system is installed, electricity is generated for free!” 

Cléjan concedes, however, that those seeking out GreenLogic aren’t doing so purely for economic reasons. Instead, they’re anxious about the environment.

 “It’s like the Al Gore movie,” Cléjan says, citing an example in An Inconvenient Truth of how a frog will boil to death in a pot of hot water, rather than jump free, if the temperature increases slowly enough. “Some people already feel the burning, and intend to do something about it.”
